NYCIVF Success Story: Anna
Diagnosis: Thirty-four-year-old Anna came to us after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer. She wanted to ensure that she would be able to have a child after completing her cancer treatment of chemotherapy, pelvic radiation, and surgery.
Treatment: We knew that Anna needed a special plan to preserve her fertility—a plan tailored specifically to her, her family, and her diagnosis. After extensive discussions with Anna and her family, she opted to undergo ovarian stimulation of the ovaries, followed by egg retrieval, fertilization, and embryo freezing. This was accomplished in two weeks—with no delay to her cancer treatment.
Following pelvic radiation, Anna’s menstrual cycle ceased and she experienced hot flashes—prompting her to decide to use a gestational carrier. The carrier was tested and found to be medically suitable. After preparing her uterus with hormones, Anna’s embryo was thawed and transferred—resulting in a successful pregnancy.
Results: Anna’s gestational carrier delivered a beautiful baby girl. And Anna and her husband are happy to know that Anna has more frozen embryos—so they still have the option to grow their family in the future.
